Casey’s General Stores
#HereForGood? That’s debatable.
The first time Eat Greater Des Moines approached Casey’s about piloting a food recovery program from stores in Ankeny, Iowa (their corporate headquarters) was in 2019. At the time there were a lot of transitions happening within the executive team but there was hope a food rescue program would be feasible as the new CEO came from a background of other convenience stores that have a food recovery program. Unfortunately, they declined further conversations.
When the pandemic hit in March 2020, Eat Greater Des Moines again reached out to ask about donating food they had been tossing from stores as there was incredible needs everywhere. Again, no.
Casey’s DID sign on to be a national Feeding America partner in February 2021. Caseys, and Casey’s customers, are contributing cash to Food Bank of Iowa and Feeding America.
Food is still being tossed at all Casey’s locations. They need a food rescue hero.
